The above map shows the output from my Multi Criteria Evaluation. Because of the large range of values distributed throughout the city, it is difficult to pinpoint the location that have the highest suitability scores. For this reason, additional maps of the MCE results were created. The RECLASS module was used to transform the above image into 4 suitability levels: Most Suitable, More Suitable, Less Suitable, and Unsuitable.

The 3 most suitable sites for a new hospital development in Vancouver are located on the Western point of Vancouver, and in Downtown Vancouver. The areas that are considered More Suitable are located largely in the East Side of Vancouver. Much of West Side of Vancouver is considered to be Less Suitable for a new hospital development. The Unsuitable areas consist of road networks, parks, and areas where hospital development would not comply with zoning regulations.

To further clarify the results, and to isolate the 3 distinct polygons suitable for hospital development, a RECLASS module was again used to isolate only the most suitable areas (RED on the map below). These were displayed along with existing Vancouver hospitals (Blue on the map below), to give the locations a context. The most suitable areas for new hospital development are located in the North Western part of Vancouver, as well as 2 locations Downtown. The area in the east of Vancouver’s Downtown is located close to the site for a new hospital chosen by the city of Vancouver.
