Data Aquisition

Landsat 5 TM images Path 47, Row 26 for 1986, 1990, 1999, 2006 and 2010: Obtained from www.glovis.usgs.gov

Canadian Digital Elevation Model (CDEM): Obtained from www.geogratis.ca

Road Networks for 2006 and 2010: Obtained from the SIS S:/ drive.

National Geographic Basemap: ESRI ArcMap

Data Preparation

Landsat
-Only images taken in April or May, with little or no cloud cover were selected. I tried to select a relatively even distribution of dates between the study range of 1986-2010.
-Images were imported into ENVI where the bands were stacked, they were exported as .tif files for use in ArcMap.
-Images were uploaded to ArcMap, clipped to the extent of the study area, converted into ASCII files and imported into IDRISI.

CDEM
-Image was imported into ArcMap and clipped using the extent of the Landsat study area clips.
-Image was converted into an ASCII file and imported into IDRISI
-Using the IDRISI PROJECT module, the image was reprojected to match the number of columns and rows in the Landsat clips.

Road Networks
-Vector files were imported into ArcMap and converted to raster.
-Rasterized road networks were clipped using the extent of the Landsat study area clips.
-Road network raster clips were converted into ASCII files and imported into IDRISI.
-Using the IDRISI PROJECT module, the road network raster clips were reprojected to match the number of columns and rows in the Landsat clips.
