Here are some areas that Communication Co-op students may work in during their Co-op terms.
Communications
- Develop concepts and strategies for an organization’s communications platforms
- Write content for website, social media, e-news, promotional or educational material
- Create visual content including graphics, videos, and photos
Writing
- Write and edit materials such as articles, case studies, blog posts, newsletters, and content for digital channels
- Conduct interviews and background research
- Technical writing – within tech companies, write content for user instructions or interfaces, and clear communications for documentation
Marketing Communications
- Coordinate projects in support of product or service marketing
- Develop and/or implement marketing campaigns and related assets
- Conduct market research
- Analyze results of campaigns across various platforms and website analytics
Social Media
- Develop or enhance organization’s social media presence and engagement through platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube
- Create digital content including captions, graphics, photos, videos
- Create content calendar and manage social media channels
- Collaborate with relevant content partners and influencers
Event Planning
- Coordinate logistics for corporate, charitable or on campus events
- Solicit donations for auctions and prizes
- Liaise with the volunteers, co-workers, event staff and special guest
- Develop promotions or communications material to support events
Public Relations
- Conduct traditional and social media monitoring for client and industry news
- Craft media pitches, written pieces, and infographics to convey a story
- Prepare research, environmental scans, presentations to support public affairs and media relations projects
Community Relations
- Organize and implement awareness-building programs
- Provide outreach activities and engage with the audience
- Liaise with the special guests, stakeholders and community members
Production
- Create content for audio or video productions which may include storyboarding, scripting, recording, filming, or interviewing guests
- Edit and produce recordings, videos, or podcasts utilizing specialized software and equipment
