Update on Presidential Reappointment Review Process
I am thrilled to share that the Board of Governors has unanimously approved the reappointment of incumbent president and vice-chancellor Dr. Joy Johnson. Joy has been approved for a further five-year term, effective September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2030, consistent with the Presidential Reappointment Review Committee’s recommendation.
During her first three years as president and vice-chancellor, Joy’s achievements include navigating the university through the COVID-19 pandemic, delivering an exciting new institutional strategy, making significant progress towards a medical school, the appointment of SFU’s first three Canada Excellence Research Chairs and furthering SFU’s commitments to the academic mission, Reconciliation and equity, diversity and inclusion.
The Board is very pleased with Joy’s performance to date and her ambitious plans for the university. We are confident that she is the right person to carry out SFU’s vision of being a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future.
My sincere thanks to each community member who offered feedback during the consultation period, and to the members of the search committee and members of the Board for their involvement in the reappointment process. A summary of the process is available on the Board of Governors’ website.
Sincerely,
Angie Lamarsh
