SFU-ARC Open Forums
Let’s Talk about Reconciliation
A call to all members of the Simon Fraser University community
SFU-ARC Open Forum
Tuesday, October 18th, 2016
2:00 - 4:00 pm
Halpern Centre 114, SFU Burnaby
Hosted by SFU-ARC co-chairs Dr. Kris Magnusson and Mr. Chris Lewis
Have you read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action? (http://www.trc.ca) Have you thought about what reconciliation means to you, or what you might do to help pave the way toward reconciliation?
SFU, as an educational institution, has a special responsibility to acknowledge and address the systematic damage that was done to Indigenous children, families, and communities through residential schools.
To help address reconciliation at SFU, President Andrew Petter has convened the Aboriginal Reconciliation Council (SFU-ARC), which will engage in broad discussions of how we might enact reconciliation on campus. Approximately $9M in strategic funding has been committed to projects and initiatives that will support reconciliation efforts over the next three years.
Get involved!
The SFU-ARC would like input from all members of the SFU community, to be gathered through a series of open forums and other activities on all three campuses. All faculty, staff, and students, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, are invited to attend the first SFU-ARC event:
