Welcome to the Office for Aboriginal Peoples (OAP) at Simon Fraser University! We hope that our office website will make it easy for you to access the various Aboriginal Peoples' services, and programs available at our great university. Please take your time in exploring the various links and resources available.
The Office for Aboriginal Peoples was established in 2009 and is currently directed by Ron Johnston. The mandate of the OAP is to take the lead on implementing the Aboriginal Strategic Plan at Simon Fraser University.
The Aboriginal Strategic Plan is a comprehensive document covering all things “Aboriginal” at SFU. This plan was initiated by a First Nations University-Wide Coordinating Committee, which was chaired by Dr. Lisa Sterling, who also served as special advisor to the Vice-President, Academic.
The Aboriginal Strategic Plan was passed by the university senate in 2007. Although the Office for Aboriginal Peoples was yet to be established, there were long established, new, and ongoing Aboriginal initiatives, services, and programs in place all over the university. The mandate of the OAP is to support these initiatives, and to break ground on new ones.
Please come by the OAP for a visit if you would like to discuss any of the above. We are located in AQ 3140 at SFU's Burnaby campus, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby.
