Books
July 23, 2004 One last quick entry while we’re waiting for our ride to the airport. I mentioned books: it is not easy to select a mere several from a library of many many more. In the end weight and “disposability” won out: for each book that made the final cut, I had to be willing to leave it behind me somewhere on the road. And if you know me and books, you know this would not be easy for me to do. The Winners (left, bottom to top): Lord Jim (Joseph Conrad), South Wind (Norman Douglas), Invisible Man (Ralph Ellison), Speak, Memory (Vladimir Nabakov), Scoop (Evelyn Waugh), Winter’s Tale (Mark Helprin). Read along! The Runners-Up (right) I will leave to the sharp-eyed viewer to decipher. Official bookstore of this Camino tour: Macleod’s Books, at the corner of Pender and Richards in Vancouver. Shop early, shop often. To close: a big public (and yet anonymous) “Thankyou!” to M (of M & D fame) for being willing to take J & I and our bikes to the airport this morning. You go girl!
