How many hours can I work on or off campus?
On-Campus Work Hours
There is currently no restriction imposed on the number of hours you may work on campus; however, it is recommended that you limit your hours to part time. Even if you are working, your studies must continue to be the main reason you are in Canada as per IRCC policy.
Off-Campus Work Hours
If you are eligible to work off campus, you may work a maximum of 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions, and full time during regularly scheduled breaks.
For more information about what constitutes a regularly scheduled break, and work eligibility during a regularly scheduled break, please visit our website.
The temporary policy allowing international students to work more than 20 hours per week off-campus ended on April 30, 2024.
On April 29, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced an upcoming change to the off-campus work hours for international students. Recently, IRCC indicated that new rule is expected to take effect later in Fall 2024. For the time being, if you are enrolled full-time and are eligible to work under your study permit this Fall term, please ensure to restrict your off-campus work hours to 20 hours per week until further notice from IRCC. We will update this page as soon as we have more information to share.
