University position regarding exams during labour disputes

During a service disruption caused by a labour dispute, the University's first obligation is to protect the interests of students. Examinations will therefore proceed as scheduled.

Exceptional circumstances, if they arise, will be dealt with according to the University's rule on missed exams. That rule says, "Students who miss examinations because of illness or for compassionate reasons are required to obtain a physician's certificate or other supporting documents in order to obtain consideration in the course." Similarly, students who choose not to cross a picket line and miss a scheduled examination must notify the Department Chair or Registrar in writing, no later than 96 hours after the time scheduled for the exam.

The University expects that all examinations for the spring semester will take place as scheduled. In the event of a disruption, efforts will be made to post updated information about the exam schedule on the SFU strike information on this website.
