Health faculty launches
SFU’s fledgling Faculty of Health Sciences will launch its first two graduate programs—master of population and public health, and master of global health management—in September, 2005.
In addition, Jamie Scott, a molecular biology and biochemistry professor and biomedical researcher, was named as a Canada Research Chair in molecular immunity—the first of four such chairs to be established in the new interdisciplinary faculty.
Scott is internationally known for her groundbreaking efforts to develop a vaccine against HIV-1—the AIDS virus. She will help the new faculty launch its research program, which complements the graduate program in population and public health.
