Electronic materials research centre
SFU received a $7.34-million grant from the Canada Foundation for Innovation to help fund an important new centre for research in electronic materials.

Chemistry professor and principal applicant Ross Hill says the facility will attract international researchers specializing in newer forms of nanotechnology with applications that could, for example, shrink the size of computers, or create new interfaces between electronic, mechanical and bio-systems to permit the body to talk to and control artificial limbs.

The new centre will be built adjacent to the chemistry building on the west side of the university.

The award—the largest SFU has ever received from the Canada Foundation for Innovation—builds on the university’s core strengths in material science.
