Admission Requirements

Master of Applied Science

Admission is competitive. Applicants must satisfy the university admission requirements as stated in Graduate General Regulation 1.3 in the SFU Calendar, and have the following:

  • An undergraduate (bachelor's) degree in a related field; 
  • Submitted evidence of capability to undertake substantial original research;
  • Identified a faculty member as a supervisor.

Master of Engineering

Admission to the MEng program is competitive. Applicants must satisfy university admission requirements as stated in Graduate General Regulation 1.3 in the SFU Calendar and have an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree in a relevant field of engineering; or  a degree in a closely related field in the natural sciences and demonstrated substantive experience in the application of sustainable energy or environmental engineering principles.

Doctor of Philosophy

Admission is competitive. Applicants must satisfy the university admission requirements as stated in Graduate General Regulation 1.3 in the SFU Calendar, and have the following:

  • A master's degree in a related field;
  • Submitted evidence of capability to undertake substantial original research; 
  • Identified a faculty member as a supervisor.

  • Please note that international students are responsible to plan ahead and have enough time to apply for the necessary visa and appropriate documentation to start the program according to their applied semester. Deferrals are not normally accepted.
