Biography

As an alumnus of Simon Fraser University holding a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechatronics Systems, Austin began his professional career during his third year at SFU by merging his passion for business with his technical expertise. He launched his first venture specializing in the refinement and design of racing wheels for motor vehicles. Through this experience he gained valuable skills in marketing, networking, and taking a product from concept to manufacturing.
Austin now serves as the Automation Team Manager at QCA Systems Ltd. where he leads the automation team responsible for bulk material handling projects which contribute significantly to Canada’s resource exports. QCA Systems is expanding its global presence, establishing itself as an industry leader in bulk export terminals by developing partnerships across North America. Austin is a strong advocate for team building and lifelong learning, believing that empowering individuals with the right skills is essential for success in the industry. His passion for education extends to mentoring students, helping them navigate the transition from academia to the workforce.

Austin’s experience in controls and automation began with his role as a control systems engineer at a local baggage handling solutions company. He has also held positions as a systems designer in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries and served as a service manager at a start-up specializing in agricultural technology. Additionally, he is a graduate of BCIT’s Mechanical Engineering Design diploma program.
