SEE students tour Powertech Labs

April 24, 2023

Students from SEE 222 recently visited Powertech Labs, one of the largest testing and research facilities in North America.

The students were given a tour of the facilities and attended a presentation, where they learned about the importance of material testing and failure analysis, and its relations to the concepts that they learned in class. They also learned how the testing, analysis, and inspection of different materials are applied to solve complex material issues in real-world applications. The class had the chance to explore the laboratories that showcased equipment for tensile, impact and hydrogen embrittlement testing as well as advanced testing techniques like scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer. In addition, they got to see a direct current fast charging station and a modular hydrogen re-fueling station for transportation.
