Multidisciplinary research advances hydrogen and fuel cell technologies
Mechatronics systems engineering professor Erik Kjeang was recently featured in SFU's Scholarly Impact of the Week, an initiative led by SFU’s Office of the Vice-President, Research and International to showcase the university's scholarly excellence.
The feature highlights Kjeang's multidisciplinary research in advancing hydrogen, fuel cell technologies and innovative fuel cell architectures and materials. He and his team at SFU's Fuel Cell Research Laboratory (FCReL) are currently working to develop the next generation of efficient, affordable and durable fuel cells for use in electric vehicles, modular power plants and other applications. One of their objectives is improving the polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell—an electrochemical device that generates electrical power by converting energy sources like hydrogen and oxygen into electricity.
