She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that is best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens over her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and over that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
She walks in Beauty was written in 1814 by Lord Byron, an English poet/aristocrat. Although Lord Byron was notorious for his numerous love affairs, the depth and passion expressed in this poem is unequivocal; hence, I consider it to be one of my favourites.
Upon learning that Lord Byron was, for lack of a better word, promiscous, I felt as if a certain sincerity was missing from this piece. While I am not saying that it is impossible for promiscous individuals to write with sincerity and depth, I wonder if the motivation for this poem was sensuality rather than love.
There is a difference between passion and love; for example, passion typically lasts for short periods of time, while love is enduring and long lasting. Moreover, upon receiving the sought after prize, passion quickly dissipates; however, in the case of love, even after receiving the object of their affections, the feelings of the individual generally do not decrease in magnitude.
The fact still remains though, Lord Byron has written a magnificient poem. The motivations for his writing are speculative, but the beauty of these words cannot be denied; anyone who has felt genuine attraction or romantic feelings towards another person can appreciate his words. The fact that love is a universal emotion is one of the main reasons why I enjoy this poem; I like to believe that everyone, everywhere, someday falls in love and thus, at one point or another, everyone will be able to enjoy this poem for all that it is.
It sure has been a while since I've written in this -- better late than never I suppose! You'll have to forgive me for failing to update this last month; I have been busy familiarizing myself with the java programming language. I also enrolled in a online program that teaches one how to become an android developer from scratch. The link to the progam homepage is The Delta Program.
I have been keeping myself busy and if all goes as I hope, I will have a Co-Op job which will help me grow as a programmer/developer. (I tried to keep it on the lighter side today -- my last post was a bit too serious). :)
I have some amazing news... I got it.. the One Plus One! As I hope you know by now, I'm a tech nerd through and through. The One is absolutely amazing; it comes with a Snapdragon 801 chipset, 16/64 GB of internal storage, 3 GB of RAM, a 13 MP rear camera, a 5 MP front facing camera, and oh, did I mention -- a special version of Android: CyanognenMod 11S.
While I have to admit, adjusting to a phone with a hulking 5.5 inch dispaly was a bit difficult, now that I'm accustomed to it, I refuse to switch to a smaller screen. The battery life is superb, the screen resolution is incredible, and the features packed into CyanogenMod 11S -- marvelous.
This is not to say that the phone does not have its flaws; it does. The in call volume is rather low (I had the volume set to its highest and still had difficulty hearing the other person), this, however, is a software issue and will most likely be fixed in future updates of the OS.
There is also a small, somewhat noticable yellow tint near the bottom of the devices screen. This yellow tint is only noticable when the screen is displaying white images/activites, for example, a new google chrome tab. The yellow tint is not covered under the manufacturer's policy as a defect and thus complaints have not warranted the shipment new replacement models to customers -- this response undoubtedly upset many consumers. I myself have no issue with the yellow tint and hardly notice it anymore.
All in all, this device is amazing and the fact that it's so difficult to get a hold of makes having it all the sweeter :).
