We understand that interactions play significant roles in this project, and it might take a long time for us to realize the interactions and animations we listed in the proposal, Starting this week, we try to implement the first major interaction in the “fantasy room” - pressing the button on the game controller to trigger Mario’s action. In the storyboard, we plan that once the button is pressed, the Mario will appear from “somewhere” and walk towards the players with a mysterious box holding in arms. Last week we’ve already built Mario’s model in MagicaVoxel.

To make the future rigging and animation easier, we first transformed the Mario into T-pose. We discovered that Adobe Mixamo can be an effective tool for us to implement our characters’ animations. After a few tries and adjustments, we successfully made three animations for Mario: sitting, standing up and walking towards the players. Then we imported these animations into Unity and assigned them to the Mario. We worked on this interaction this whole week, and in the end, we successfully made it that when the players pick up the game controller and press it, the Mario which sits beside the computer will stand up and walk towards the players.
