Think Science Competition
Summary
More than 6 projects proposal from the engineering students were accepted in the think science 2019 competition. Most of the projects focus on helping people of determination to better engage them in the community. As such, the smart shoes project which was equipped with a GPS-tracker that allows parents to track thier kids locations. Here are some of the projects:
- Smart Shoe for people of determination (visually impaired)

- Automatic sterilization for fingerprint devices
The objective of this project is to help the blind people find path free obstacle and help their family members to track them and their location using tracker and GPS technology respectively. The controller along with ultrasonic sensor is used to detect an obstacle and provide feedback in the form of speech notification to the subject and vibration to the shoe. It uses Bluetooth technology to connect Arduino controller board to smartphone that already has built in GPS system. This project also has an additional feature of sending an SMS to their family member whenever the visually impaired person feels stressed or being lost or under panic condition.
This project aims at reducing death rates and injuries caused my gas/radiation exposure. The robotic device will be equipped with sensory data that can be used to detect radiation, gas level as well as obstacles. It can also be used to perform interventions actions such as opening or closing a valve to reduce radiation levels.
Residents in rural areas have limited access to health care services, and they’re less likely to be provided with medical aid. However, due to the short age of medical staff in rural places and not getting immediate help in case of emergencies, many people end up dying. To overcome this issue, designing a device that could monitor peoples’ health statuses based on IOT that includes the features of GPS and WiFi to communicate with the specialist doctors in urban areas by sending a signal wirelessly that including the health parameters information of patients.
The electronic fingerprint device used by institutions and departments to record the time of attendance and departure of workers. By using these devices, there is a possibility for infections since germs remain on the surfaces for a long time. Therefore, there is a need to automatically sterilize fingerprint devices for a healthier society. .
