Engine Cooling Bay Air Intake Design (Westland helicopters) This project aims at optimizing the cooling bay shape, together with heating, to reduce the ice build-up on the cooling bay. Picture 1 shows the helicopter cooling bay; Picture 2 shows the schematics of the air flow; and Picture 3 shows the global optimum, which is obtained with only 45 function evaluations for a five-variable problems with both CFD analysis and heat transfer FEA processes.
Helmet Impact Mechanism Design We built a three-meter state-of-the-art test facility to test helmet impact on flat and angled anvils. Moreover we invented new impact reduction mechanisms that are currently patent pending.
