Biography
Shana is a Ph.D. student in Criminology at SFU in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She has a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, USA. Her research focuses on racial disparities in the Criminal Justice system and her dissertation uses a mixed method approach to explore judicial sentencing decisions and their role in Indigenous youth overrepresentation in custody. Shana is particularly interested in the teaching aspect of academia and has participated in a variety of professional development programs, including earning a Certificate in University Teaching and Learning from SFU. She has spent much of her time at SFU working with students in the classroom and collaborating with faculty on ways to improve their courses. She is excited to use her mixed method research skills in support of instructor’s projects in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning as a research assistant for Transforming Inquiry into Learning and Teaching (TILT).
