Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Updates- November 15, 2024
On November 15, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the following two updates to the International Student Program regulations:
- Changes to the off-campus work hours
- Changing school as a study permit holder

Off-campus Work Hours
As of November 08, 2024, as an international student at SFU, you are eligible to work off campus for up to 24 hours per week during an academic session if you meet all of the following requirements:
- you have a valid study permit that includes a condition stating you may work off campus;
- you are enrolled in a program of 6 months or more that leads to a degree, diploma or certificate; and
- you are enrolled as a full-time student (except for a final term) at SFU.
- For undergraduate students, Spring and Fall terms are considered as academic sessions.
- For graduate students, Spring, Summer and Fall term are all considered academic sessions.

New process for post-secondary study permit holders
Starting November 8, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has implemented a new process for post-secondary study permit holders when changing schools. We are waiting for more information from IRCC and will update this page as we receive further details.
