Driving and parking
Driver's Licence
If you are a full-time exchange / study abroad student, you may drive in BC with a valid international driving licence for the duration of your stay (if you have a valid study permit) or up to 6 months from your date of arrival in Canada. While driving, carry your valid International Driving Permit or home driver's licence (and an official translation if it is not in English), your valid SFU student ID card, your study permit (if you have one) and proof of full-time registration (eg. Confirmation of Enrollment letter downloaded from goSFU). Translation services are available through MOSAIC. Visit the ICBC website for more details.
Automobile insurance
ICBC (Insurance Corporation of British Columbia) provides universal auto insurance to all BC motorists and is also responsible for driver licensing and vehicle enrollment. All BC motorists must have “Basic Autoplan” coverage, which provides the minimum insurance coverage required by law.
If you have questions, call ICBC at 1.800.950.1498 or visit their website.
Parking on the Burnaby campus
There is no free parking on the SFU Burnaby Campus; all parking is paid parking, via permit, paystation, or app. For detailed information, visit the SFU Parking Services website.
