Summer 2024

In addition to the four-month Summer term (May-August), SFU also offers a two-month Intersession (May-June) and a two-month Summer session (July-August). This increases summer program accessibility for students and instructors.

  • Summer term courses start May 6, 2024; last day of exam is August 16
  • Intersession courses start May 6, 2024; last day of exam is June 24
  • Summer session courses start June 25, 2024; last day of exams is August 16

Please take note of the specific deadlines applicable to each term/session.

Enrolment

Monday, March 4 Enrolment appointments for Summer 2024 classes begin. Check your enrolment appointment on goSFU, the student information system.
Monday, March 25 Open enrolment for Summer 2024 classes - Open to all students at 8:00 am. 

Classes: add/swap/change tutorial

Sunday, May 12 Last day to add classes, swap classes, change tutorials on goSFU. Last day to enrol or change to audit by the department offering the course.
Sunday, May 19 Last day to enrol for class challenge or switch your challenge from one class to another or regular enrolment in a class, with permission of the department. (You can’t withdraw from class challenge without substituting a regular class.)
Sunday, May 26
Last day to add classes through the department, with permission of the chair and instructor. Last day to change tutorials through the department.  

Classes: drop/withdraw/extenuating circumstances (WE). See also Fees for REFUNDS/INTEREST CHARGES

Sunday, May 12  Last day to completely withdraw from all classes with no notation on your academic record.
See Summer Session deadlines below if all of your courses start on or after June 25.
Sunday, May 19 
Last day to drop a class using goSFU, without a withdrawal notation of “WD” for the course on your academic record. If withdrawing from all classes, a withdrawal notation of “Withdrew YYYY-MM-DD” will be added to your academic record. 
Sunday, June 30 
Last day to drop a class using goSFU, with a withdrawal notation (WD) on your academic record.
Monday, July 1 
Classes may be dropped in the current term only under extenuating circumstances (WE).

Payment  
Monday, April 1 Deadline to pay summer Residence fees. www.sfu.ca/students/residences/fees/payment-methods.html. A 2% monthly interest charge will be assessed after the due date and on the first of each month thereafter.
Friday, May 17


 
Deadline to pay tuition and student fees for any combination of Summer term and Intersession. See How to Pay, and note it takes up to five business days for your payment to be received and show in goSFU. A 2% monthly interest charge will be assessed after the due date and on the first of each month thereafter. 
Friday, June 21 Deadline to pay Co-op Practicum fees.

Refunds/interest charges for Summer term

Sunday, May 12  Last day to drop a class for 100% refund of tuition. For Mandatory Supplementary Course Fee refunds, please check with the department/faculty regarding the specific deadline.
Sunday, May 19  Last day for 75% refund of tuition. Last day for refund of student fees (Student Services, Recreation-Athletics and Student Activity). A 2% monthly interest charge will be assessed on the outstanding balance after tuition deadline and on the first of each month thereafter.
Sunday, May 26 Last day for 50% refund of tuition. No refund of student fees. A 2% monthly interest charge will be assessed on the outstanding balance after tuition deadline and on the first of each month thereafter.
Monday, May 27  No refund for courses dropped. A 2% monthly interest charge will be assessed on the outstanding balance after tuition deadline and on the first of each month thereafter.
June 21 after 10:00 am, and every month thereafter If you have not enrolled in direct deposit, refund cheques requested for overpayment (which are not related to scholarships and bursaries) are available for pickup at Burnaby campus, unless payment has been made by personal cheque (which requires a 45 day clearance period). Graduation application/cancellation

Friday, May 3  Deadline to cancel application to graduate in June 2024, if you are completing degree requirements in the Spring 2024 term.  
Monday, May 6  Graduation application for Summer 2024 term opens
Friday, June 21  Early deadline to apply and pay for the early application fee on goSFU for graduation in October 2024 convocation ceremonies, if you are completing degree requirements in the Summer 2024 term. Note that the graduation fee will be charged for each degree, diploma and  certificate for which you are applying.
Friday, August 9

Final deadline to apply and pay for the regular application fee on goSFU for graduation in October 2024, if you are completing degree requirements in the Summer 2024 term. Note that the graduation fee will be charged for each degree, diploma and certificate for which you are applying.
Tuesday, September 3  Deadline to cancel application to graduate in October 2024 convocation ceremonies, if you are completing degree requirements in the Summer 2024 term.
