Emission Studies using FTIR and Particle Counter

Project Synopsis:

CREATE uses Portable Emission Measurement Systems (PEMS) for assessing the emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and hydrocarbons (HC) directly from vehicle exhausts and industrial stacks. By enabling on-site, real-time measurement under actual operating conditions, PEMS provide detailed emission profiles that are vital for evaluating the environmental impact of different powertrain technologies and alternative or renewable fuels. The data collected helps in understanding how these technologies and fuels can modify emission characteristics and, consequently, influence air quality. This insight is essential for developing strategies aimed at reducing pollution and aligning with stricter environmental regulations.

Objectives:

  • Assess Real-World Emissions
  • Evaluate Alternative Powertrains
  • Investigate Renewable and Alternative Fuels
  • Improve Emission Profiles
  • Support Regulatory Compliance
  • Guide Technology Development

Funding agency:

  • Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI)
  • Britisch Columbia Knolwdge Development Fund (BCKDF)
  • NSERC
