Moving and Accessing SAS Files across Operating Environments |
The primary differences between Version 8 and Version 7 are that Version
8 includes maintenance to Version 7 and it introduces certain SAS vertical
products. Because the formats of Version 8 and Version 7 SAS files are identical,
there is no recognizable difference between them. For example, Version 8 and
Version 7 SAS filename extensions are the same; the filename extension for
files of type DATA on UNIX hosts is
.sas7bdat
for Version 8 and Version 7. Furthermore, because the V8
engine and the V7 engine are identical, you can use them interchangeably when
accessing either Version 8 or Version 7 files.
