SFU Political Science congratulates Tatiana Parrish on winning People’s Choice Award at the 2025 FASS Three Minute Thesis

Congratulations to MA Political Science student, Tatiana Parrish, on winning the ‘People’s Choice’ award at the recent Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.
Parrish presented on ‘CEDAW and Feminism Pressure Canada to End Femicide’. As per the format of SFU FASS 3MT competition, she only had 3 minutes to combine approximately 100 pages of research into a presentation. “I had to choose what I thought would be the most important points of my research that the audience would care the most about and get the most from. I chose to present part of my thesis, the Canadian Case study and specifically highlight the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Canada.”
In her presentation, Parrish focused on how the pressure from the international law CEDAW, and Canadian feminist movements and organizations successfully pressured Canada to take national action toward addressing the root causes of femicide. As per her findings, she says, “For every one Caucasian woman that is killed, between six and nineteen Indigenous women are killed. Canadians should know about their internationally promised rights; who is working towards addressing femicide; and who is most vulnerable to being killed.”
If you are planning to participate in any upcoming FASS 3MT competition, here's what Parrish suggests, “Go to the info and instruction sessions. This is where you will learn the ideal structure of a 3MT and the other SFU resources available to assist your presentation. Do as many drafts as you can and keep practicing as much as you can.”
As a finalist, Tatiana Parrish will represent FASS at the upcoming university-wide competition where she will compete against the winners of the wildcard heat and other faculty heats.
Come and support her on Thursday, April 10th at SYRE Theatre 1002 and SYRE Atrium, from 5:30 PM- 7:30 PM at SFU Surrey campus.
