Overview
Strings are played to show the relationship between string length and pitch.
Details
Equipment
- [1] Violin
- [1] Bow
- [1] Container of rosin
Classroom Assembly
- Tune the violin.
- Apply rosin to the bow if necessary.
Important Notes
- Details of the violin can't be seen in a large lecture hall, but the sound can be clearly heard.
Script
- Using the bow, play the strings one by one to show how string length affects pitch.
- Hold a string at 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, etc of it's length while bowing to demonstrate overtones.
