Motor/generator

Description: Hand cranked device that may be used as an AC or DC generator, or as a motor.

This thing originally came with some kind of electromagnet which disappeared years ago. I have stuck a couple of permanent magnets on it.

There are two sets of brushes: a split ring for DC operation and two continuous rings for AC operation. Connect the device to the overhead projection meter and crank away. Try wiggling the coil back and forth at the positions of maximum flux through the coil (small generated voltage) and at minimum flux (large generated voltage). Compare AC and DC operation.

Connect the device to a DC supply to use as a motor. Please do not operate for extended periods.
