Dan Messenger Awarded First Certificate "With Distinction"
Dan Messenger departs SFU this term with his Master of Science, Applied and Computational Mathematics (APMA) degree and the department's newest honour - the certificate "With Distinction." Dan is the first recipient of this certificate since its inception in May 2019.
The certificate "With Distinction" recognizes the mathematical sophistication, originality, and significance of certain MSc and PhD theses and defences. Following the successful defence of his thesis, Aggregation-Diffusion Phenomena in Domains with Boundaries on July 18, 2019, the examining committee recommended Dan for the certificate "With Distinction" noting that both his thesis and defence were of superior quality and could easily be considered one of the top of the theses and defences of the APMA program. Dan's supervisory team also acknowledged his exceptional writing skills, which have resulted in two papers (one submitted and one in preparation of submission) based on his thesis work.
Dan will be starting his PhD in applied mathematics at the University of Colorado, Boulder, in September 2019. A valued member of the Department of Mathematics, Dan will be missed.
Good luck to you, Dan!
