Cristina Figueroa
Cristina is a third-year Labour Studies major and Indigenous Studies minor, hoping to pursue a career centred around social justice advocacy. In this pursuit, Cristina has been volunteering at the Sexual Violence Prevention Office (SVSPO) at SFU through their Active Bystander Network (ABN). Alongside the ABN, she has been able to spread awareness about sexual violence prevention and intersectional issues such as those pertaining to the BIPOC community.
"I am beyond honoured to have been chosen for this award, and I would like to kindly thank Dr. Kendra Strauss for her nomination. I am grateful for everything I have learned about the labour movement, human rights, and diversity and inclusion through my major. As a queer woman of colour, I find it so special that I am able to learn about how the labour movement advocates for marginalized people such as myself."
A number of awards are available each year to students in the Labour Studies Program. To learn more or to apply, visit our Awards and Funding page.
