Canadian Ambassador to Algeria, H.E. Ms. Patricia McCULLAGH
Prior to her current appointment as Canadian Ambassador to Algeria, Ms. Patricia McCullagh served as Canadian Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire with accreditation to Liberia from 2015 to 2017.
Ms. McCullagh began her career with the Government of Canada within the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in 2003 as Senior Economist and Leader of the Private Sector Development Team. She was promoted to CIDA’s executive cadre in 2005 as Director of Gender Equality, representing Canada on the Development Assistance Committee of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development and other international fora.
From 2007 to 2011, Ms. McCullagh served as Director of CIDA’s Indonesia development program in Jakarta, Indonesia. Upon returning to Canada in 2011, she served as Director of the Strategic Analysis and Operations Branch for Europe, the Middle East, the Maghreb, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Ms. McCullagh was posted to Dar es Salaam as Senior Director of Development for Tanzania from 2012 to 2015, leading on key priorities for Canada. These included the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health initiative, extractives (namely the Canada-Tanzania G-8 transparency in the extractives industry project), sustainable economic growth and education/skills development.
Prior to joining the government, Ms. McCullagh worked for the United Nations in Vietnam. She also spent time in the private sector, running her own business in the United Kingdom and working in financial publishing in the UK and Canada. Ms. McCullagh completed a BA [Commerce, French] at the University of Western Ontario (Western University) in 1983 and an M.Sc. [International Political Economy] at the London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom, in 1988.
