SFU History Decolonization Working Group Releases Report
After 18 months of work and with the guidance of student research assistants Zaina Khan and Ashley Kyne, the Department of History’s Decolonization and Indigenization Working Group is pleased to publicly release its initial findings. “The Way Forward: Decolonizing and Indigenizing the SFU Department of History” contains the results of a survey created to garner responses from students, faculty, and staff about their experiences in the Department of History, and concludes with an identification of 25 calls to action.
The Department of History is committed to decolonization and Indigenization and many of its members have been working to create a learning environment that embodies these values. In response to the Working Group’s findings, SFU History adopted a motion at a recent department meeting that endorses the overarching spirit of the report and commits to an ongoing engagement with its findings and calls to action, including through an annual review of departmental progress.
