BASE DATA SET

The all of data that were utilized in the project were provided from the geometics department of
the city of Coquitlam, the courtesy of Henry Wong, the geometics manager and Sharon Choo,
the mapping technician. Mr. Wong gratefully provided me with the data that was needed for proceeding with
the project and Ms. Choo gave me many enlightening helps and points.

1) Topological Map

(road network, contour, spot elevation layer)

E09, E10, E11, F09, F10, F11

2) Cadastral Map

(Address, property line)

E09, E10, E11, F09, F10, F11

3) Zoning Map

(Zoning code, status, size, angle, location)

E09, E10, E11, F09, F10, F11

The initial data sets were all in the AUTOCAD format and that meant long and arduous hours of converting the data.
By virtue of being the only conversion program, FME was originally put to the task of converting the
AUTOCAD vector data sets. However, this proved to be less than thrilling choice.
Some considerable time was exhaused on converting the data from the original format
due to the sheer size of each file (and resulted in dozens of crashes).
The critical problem with the FME was that the program extract every single layers "seperately",
generating nearly different sixty layers. This was partially due to the fact that each layer contained
approximately two dozens of subcategory layers. As a result, ArcView, which was the secondary choice,
was mainly utilized in order to properly convert. Without the ArcView compatability,
the analysis would have suffered a tremendous limitation as to how I might have gone about doing the analysis.
Unfortunately, due to the technical reason, I was unable to apply any of the interpolation technique
to create more complex elevation data model and as a result the layer that was generated
from the spot-elevation value in the CAD files was used to fill in for the DEM model.
