Welcome to my project! This project is designed to find a new location for a golf course in the Lower Mainland. The idea came to me when I was told that there was a golf course located on an Indian Reserve who's lease would run out soon and they would have to relocate. The current course is part of an exclusive country club where members pay high fees to maintain their membership. At the moment the club is trying to recruit as many new members as possible so that it can build up capital to purchase new land as the Indian Reserve will likely not renew the lease.
As the Lower Mainland is becoming more and more developed less land is available for such leisure activities. One idea, which I find to be very smart, is to locate new courses on former industrial land. I had hoped to accomplish this in my project but could not find the data so I opted instead to just locate it on open space where no one lives. I wanted to keep my location as close to the original one as possible since the members will likely not want to travel far to their new course. The other factors I considered had to do with ideal conditions for the site location.
My project is broken up
into 4 sections: data acquisition - where I got my data from, methodology
- what I did to get to find my site and why, spatial analysis - what I
came up with, and methodological and operational errors - what went wrong
and why.
