I am of the opinion that
the reason the Smashing Pumpkins broke up because of the big trade-off...
The whole Melissa auf der Maur thing. She should have stayed at Hole. I
still like Hole, but as far as I'm concerned, both Hole and the Pumpkins
went way downhill after Auf der Maur moved to the Pumpkins. I saw the Pumpkins
live at Summersault this last summer and, except for one or two songs,
they didn't play ANYTHING from their glory days before the TRADE-OFF! It
was a really big let-down. Hole is still plugging along, but... well...
But, you know - I gotta
say two things:
-
"By Starlight" on Mellon Collie and the Infinite
Sadness is the best slow song ever, and...
-
Jimmy Chamberlain has the coolest pants I have
ever seen.
