Introduction
Burnaby is a multicultural city that continues to grow. Geographic Information Science, mapping, and spatial analysis are effective tools in determining suitable areas of development. Volleyball in BC is a sport that is continuing to grow for all ages. It allows people to come together and socialize and help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Participation levels have increased dramatically over the years. The fun club, which coordinates a variety of youth and young adult co-ed indoor and outdoor volleyball programs, has seen an increase of participation between May to September 2008. About 4000 individuals have taken part in both outdoor and indoor volleyball leagues and tournaments (TFC). This tremendous rate of growth is due to a number of key factors including increased media exposure, sponsorship support, and the accessibility of first-class, professionally coordinate events (TFC).
As the popularity and participation of the sport increases, facilities are used to their maximum capacity. The problems that the facilities encounter are the shortage of gym space for people who want to drop-in to play and cancellation of leagues due to double bookings of space.
The purpose of this project is to analyze and find a potential location for a volleyball facility in Burnaby. This facility will only be used for Volleyball and is accessible for all ages. The analysis will mainly focus on specific age groups (15 to 39) but will also have another analysis not focusing on age but landuse. This will be done using the Multi-criteria evaluation.
