DATA PREPARATION

Idrisi data would be ideal to work with, since I will be using
Idrisi v3.2 to do the analysis for Stan.  But Stan was provided
            with data for Arcview.

I was able to convert the shape files from Arcview to Idrisi using
the ShapeIDR (Import/Export shape files) command under the
Help - Arcview/Arcinfo Quick View menu.  Import - Arcidris
            works as well

The files are in vector format now and need to be converted over
to raster.  This is done using the Vector/Raster Conversion
            commands in Idrisi.

After looking at an extensive topographic map of the area it is
apparent that there is not enough information to do a proper
analysis and meet the criteria that Stan provided.  I had to add
some data and make a few adjustments before the data would
            be ready for manipulation.

The U.S. Military, the Navy in particular has a lot of property in
San Diego, Mirimar Naval Air station(Top Gun) is one of three
Naval air stations in the area, there are also a small number of
Naval reserves.  I had to digitize all their lands into a vector
            layer then convert to raster.

I also had to digitize the points Sea World and WORK and
convert them over to raster as well.  The water layer had to
be divided up into lakes and harbours and that was done using
Reclass, which was also used to convert the layers to boolean
images so that the MCE (multiple criteria evaluation) could
            take place.
