Talk: June Scudeler on Kent Monkman
Wednesday, September 27 / 7pm
Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Center, SFU Vancouver
We are pleased to welcome Dr. June Scudeler (Métis) as SFU Galleries' Academic Liaison. Scudeler is a Shadbolt Fellow and cross appointment with First Nations Studies. She will be undertaking research and programming with SFU Gallery in Burnaby over the next three years.
Scudeler's research focuses on the intersections between gender studies, Indigenous literature, film, and art. Her current project explores Indigenous Gothic, horror, and science fiction film and literature.
To introduce her work, she will present a talk on the work of Toronto based artist Kent Monkman (a member of the Fisher River Band in northern Manitoba and of Swampy Cree and English/Irish descent) entitled "Slaying Savage Masculine Forces with the Dazzling Power of My Beauty and Allure:" Kent Monkman's Sovereign Erotics.
