Colin Copeland

Associate Professor, School of Sustainable Energy Engineering

Dr. Copeland has over fifteen years of research experience within Canada and internationally. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering from Ryerson University in 2003 and his MASc from the University of Waterloo in 2005, before moving abroad to pursue his PhD. His doctoral studies at the Imperial College London examined the fluid dynamics of a radial turbine when exposed to pulsating flows. After one year at the University of Bristol, he joined the Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre (now IAAPS) at the University of Bath where he successfully established an internationally recognized hot-flow laboratory that enabled a wide range of fundamental and applied science research programs. Example projects included a novel heat recovery cycle, additively manufactured turbomachinery, two-stage compressor system for an electric bus, and many more.

Vahid Mahmoodi

Research Associate, Researching shock wave heating for methane pyrolysis

Vahid received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering under the supervision of Professor Bing Chen Wang at the University of Manitoba in June 2021. His dissertation focused on the development of numerical methods for simulation of turbulent flow and heat transfer in a square duct roughened with transverse or V-shaped ribs.  Prior to that, he earned his M.Sc from the University of Tehran and a B.Sc from Shahid Rajaee University, both in mechanical engineering. While his research lies primarily in the area of wall-bounded turbulence (especially over roughness), he is also interested in flow and shock waves, turbomachines, and high-performance computing.  

Ghislain Madiot

Master’s Student, Researching novel wave-rotor designs for carbon-neutral hydrogen production

Ghislain graduated from EI.CESI (Paris, France), where he obtained a Master of Science degree in engineering in 2012.

He then worked for the last 12 years in the aeronautical industry, where he held several positions inside the company, such as design engineer, test engineer, and customer support engineer; in order to ensure the entry of the engine into service.

Concerned about climate change, he decided to change career to join the T-Force team and be an actor in the future change.
