ΔE+ member participates in ICTP Joint Summer School on Modelling Tools for Sustainable Development
ΔE+ Research Assistant and PhD Student, Trevor Barnes, travelled to Trieste, Italy to participate in the ICTP Joint Summer School on Modelling Tools for Sustainable Development this summer as a trainer. The summer school is a three-week intensive course for individuals working in the energy and policy field in developing nations to get free training in models and tools for energy planning needs. The event drew more than 100 participants from over 30 countries and included 9 different learning tracks.
The ICTP summer school was hosted at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), and organized by Climate Compatible Growth UK (CCG) in collaboration with International Energy Agency (IEA), Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), The World Bank, , World Resources Institute (WRI), Imperial College London, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), OpTIMUS Community, Simon Fraser University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Politecnico di Milano and many others!
Trevor participated in the event as a trainer for the OSeMOSYS Energy Model and the IRENA FlexTool training track. As one of the trainers, Trevor helped explain the fundamentals of energy modelling, develop teaching material, troubleshoot model errors, and guide the development of country specific energy models. The training concludes with a full day of presentations where all participates present their work to the other participants and trainers of the other tracks. While in Trieste, Trevor also participated in the 8th OSeMOSYS steering committee meeting.
