ΔE+ at Energy Modeling Platform in Costa Rica
A few members of Delta E + had the opportunity to take part as OSeMOSYS and CLEWs trainers in Energy Modelling Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean Community Group (EMP-LAC) at the University of Costa Rica in San José in January and early February, sharing expertise in open modelling tools to support energy planning for the transition to low carbon energy systems in the region.
The event was hosted by Climate Compatible Growth, and has partnerships with UNDP, Loughborough University, University College London, KTH, and more. While ΔE+ has taken part in other EMP training sessions, for the students this is the first one where the participants were there in person, making for a special and exciting experience. We also had the chance to be tourists in beautiful Costa Rica, including visiting volcanos, waterfalls, hot springs, and seeing sloths!
The head of ΔE+, Taco, and team also made connections with Electric Power and Energy Research Laboratory (EPERLab) at the University of Costa Rica, attending a research knowledge sharing workshop hosted by EPERLab. Dr. Jairo Quirós-Tortós and his team are a research group that is dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions through innovative power electronics and energy conversion systems. The event provided an opportunity for researchers from both research labs to discuss their prospective research on energy system, energy economics, and sustainability, among other topics.
