LOGISTICS

Information on logistics that will be useful in finding your way to the conference and being sure that you're comfortable while you're there. If you have any questions, contact Erin Porszt.

Location

FAME 2007 is being hosted at Camp Elphinstone, a scenic oceanside camp accessible by a short ferry ride from West Vancouver.

TRANSPORTATION
Camp Elphinstone is located approximately 1.5km from the Langdale ferry terminal (map).  To get to the camp, catch the Langdale ferry from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver.  The crossing takes approximately 40 minutes.  See BC Ferries for schedules and more information. 

From the Langdale terminal, there will be arranged transportation to the camp for those not driving. 
For those driving, turn right on the highway after departing the ferry terminal.  Go up the hill and look for YMCA Road on your right. Follow YMCA Road through the subdivision down to the camp gates. Park in the visitors parking lot.

  • Taxi service to Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal:  A taxi from Vancouver Airport to Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal is approximately CDN$80, and takes 50-60 minutes.
  • Bus service to Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal:  The bus carrier is Islandlink Bus Services:  http://www.islandlinkbus.com/  The cost is CDN$27.50 per person.
  • Transit service to Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal:  From Vancouver Airport, take bus number 424 “Airport Station”, then bus number 98 “Burrard Station / B-line”, then bus number 257 “Horseshoe Bay Express.”  The cost is CDN$4.50, and the trip takes just under two hours.  See the Translink site for more info: http://www.translink.bc.ca/default.asp

After crossing the border, take 176th street northbound to Highway 1 West. Follow Highway 1 westbound until you reach the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal.  You have the option of parking at the terminal and walking on to the ferry.  The drive from the Canada-US border to Horseshoe Bay takes approximately one hour and ten minutes.

If you have no car and want to try to carpool, or if you have a car and want to offer rides, please contact Erin Porszt.

Accommodation, food, etc.
We will be sleeping in the regular campers' cabins. A mattress is provided, but you should bring your own pillow and bedding. Also bring a towel, soap, etc; there are several showers in a common building.

Snacks will be provided on Friday evening, three meals will be provided on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch will be provided on Sunday. Vegetarian meals will be available on request. Please let us know when you register if you have other special requirements and hopefully the Camp kitchen staff will be able to accommodate you.

Fees
