What types of support do mentees appreciate most in a telementoring relationship? Often mentors find themselves wondering what types of guidance will most satisfy their mentees. This is a different question from what will help them learn the most, though it is related in an important way. Because students can disengage from a telementoring relationship easily, it is important to maintain a balance between the guidance they need and the guidance they can appreciate. In one of our studies, we examined the relationship between students' judgments of the success of their telementoring relationships and several other factors. In this study, the most significant contributors to students's judgments of success were: the helpfulness of the questions that mentors asked students the level of trust that students placed in their mentors the usefulness of the reading materials that mentors suggested to students the helpfulness of mentors in shaping the questions students investigated
