What is rapport and what do we mean by "good rapport"? While telementoring dialogues should not devolve into idle chat, they should be friendly and should ideally connect academic interests to non-academic ones. A friendly and comfortable relationship makes it much easier for your mentees to be honest with you about what they don't know and what difficulties they are having in their work. This is important, in turn, because it increases visibility.
