Abstract: Across many disciplines, there is increasing interest in collective behavior and, more specifically, collective intelligence. With increased interest comes increased breadth in the conceptual frameworks, mathematical models, and empirical paradigms used to study collective behavior. Though this breadth has widened and enriched the scope of inquiry, it also makes productive, comparative inquiry into collective behavior difficult. I take a Cognitive Science-based approach to addressing some of these difficulties, offering an integrative, ecumenical, and multidisciplinary account of collective intelligence.
