Dr. Hossein Houshmand, Post Doctoral Research Fellow
Hossein Houshmand completed his PhD in comparative religion and ethics (Islam and Human Rights: The Search for an Overlapping Consensus) at Concordia University. His dissertation explores the implications of John Rawls’ distinctive theory of global normative order in formulating a reasonable conception of human rights in Islamic doctrine. His research interests include Islamic thought, Iranian studies, and contemporary political philosophy. Houshmand’s current research investigates the idea of priority of democracy to secularism as a proper explanation of the relationship between religion and politics in the context of Muslim societies.
