Affiliations and Positions

Scholar in Residence

Persons with significant academic, literary, or artistic qualifications whose work may benefit from a residency at the CCMS may apply for this non-stipendiary status. The position provides University affiliation, use of the University Library, office space, and membership in facilities. Residents are required to participate in Centre activities by attending lectures, workshops, and colloquia, and presenting and publishing original research. The residency requires affiliation with a SFU faculty mentor. Appointments are for a maximum of one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. Applicants should submit a letter of application, a current CV, a research proposal, and a letter of support from a SFU faculty member.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Postdoctoral Fellows are administered and defined by the Dean of Graduate Studies at SFU under Policy R50.02, which requires Fellows to have external or internal funding. In addition, Postdoctoral Fellows in some area of Muslim Studies who are accepted by the Dean of Graduate Studies may receive the use of CCMS facilities through application to its Director. A Postdoctoral Fellow at the CCMS will be required to participate in the activities of the Centre by attending lectures, workshops, and colloquia and presenting a research paper. A Centre Fellow requires a faculty mentor within Muslim Studies at SFU, who will be responsible for the supervision of the research. Applicants for SFU affiliation should apply directly to the Dean of Graduate Studies. Applications for affiliation to the CCMS should submit a letter of application, a current CV, a research proposal, and a letter of support by a prospective faculty mentor.

Research Associate

Persons with academic, literary, or artistic qualifications may apply for the non-stipendiary status of Research Associate for the purposes of a specific research project within the area of Muslim societies and cultures. Academic qualifications include a completed PhD from a reputable institution and an ongoing research agenda. Equivalent qualifications in literature, art, or music will be considered. Research Associates require a SFU faculty mentor in the relevant area. Research Associates are provided with University affiliation and shared office space. They are required to contribute to the University research community by attending lectures, workshops, and colloquia, publishing, and reporting on their research projects. Positions are for a maximum of one year, renewable on application. Applicants should submit a letter of application, a current CV, a research proposal, and a letter of support from a potential SFU faculty mentor.

Research Assistant

Graduate students and upper division undergraduate students in good standing at Simon Fraser University may apply for a Research Assistantship at the Centre. This is a paid position, depending on qualifications, and requires a willingness to work on research and/or organization at the Centre. Positions are available on a periodic basis and posted on the Centre web-site.
