Commemorating Islamic History Month in 2024
October marks the beginning of Islamic History Month! Here in Vancouver and beyond, communities gather together to learn about, reflect on, and celebrate the rich, diverse histories of Muslim communities, both as they have developed here among Muslim-Canadians and across the world.
During Islamic History Month, we also have a special responsibility to advocate for those Muslim communities that are facing increased repression across the world. The predominantly Muslim communities in Palestine, Sudan, and Kashmir continue to face state-sponsored and colonial violence, and we must uplift their voices in order to support them in their struggles for liberation and a peaceful future.
As the scourge of Islamophobia increases in these lands across Turtle Island, we must remember to highlight Muslim joy. To that end, we at CCMS are committed to continue to contribute programming that will extend beyond the month of October. Check out our current book display in SFU's library to enjoy reading and learning more about the plural, rich history of Islam. 📚
Stay tuned for future plans!
