Hi everyone,
I’m Joy Johnson, and I am delighted to begin serving as the president and vice-chancellor of SFU. I want to start this fall term and my new role by simply saying thank you.
A university is only as strong as its people. With more than 165,000 alumni change makers, visionaries and problem-solvers around the globe, SFU has grown to become one of Canada's leading institutions. Alumni like you have enabled us to generate real change and deliver sustainable, relevant solutions to today's most pressing challenges.
As we welcome students back to classes, all of our effort is for them. They will need the strength and support of our tremendous alumni community more than ever, just as the world is going to need them more than ever. I hope you will join me in rising to this challenge—we need to do what we can to support them through this. At SFU, we are committed to working hard every day to provide students with the world-class education our university has always been known for, and ensuring their safety will remain our priority in every decision we make.
The way we have supported one another during this crisis assures me that we will only grow stronger, more resilient, and more resolved in our desire to contribute to a better society. I could not be more proud or more excited to be a part of what’s next for SFU. Truly, there’s nowhere I’d rather be. I’m privileged to call this my community, and I’m eager to listen, learn and grow.
You are a valued member of SFU’s alumni family and we are honoured to be a part of your life. Your contributions and success make us proud and show the whole world the value of an SFU education.
Stay safe, take care of yourselves, and take care of one another.
Joy Johnson
President and Vice-Chancellor
