Climate Change Resilience for Buildings

This primer analyzes how the decisions we make about designing, constructing, and managing the built environment can further low carbon resilience.

Climate change is changing the management of the built environment. Projected hazards for British Columbia include increases in the number and intensity of wildfires, increased frequency of heat waves and drought, extreme storms, and flooding.

This primer, produced by RDH Building Science with funding from BC Housing, investigates how to embed low carbon resilience into building design and retrofits. This primer covers different aspects related to the built environment, including geography, building types, policy, climate change projections, LCR measures, and building lifespans.

The primer will help building practitioners understand climate change and low carbon resilience, recognize the threats to the built environment in a changing climate, and access the tools and processes to start integrating LCR into the management of new and existing buildings.
